In today’s instant gratification society (we all want everything “now, now, now!”) one pet peeve that seems to trump almost all others is slowness.  Many young smart phone or tablet users might be too young to remember the old days of dial-up – and even those of us who do remember have gotten used to being able to get up and going right now!  One of the main complaints that come from many smartphones and tablets is that they can take forever to charge.  The good news is that there are several ways to speed up that process!

The first tip is to make sure you’re using a high output charger.  What a lot of people don’t know is that there are many types of chargers that supply less power than what many devices can handle.  If you’re finding a really slow charging time then getting a high output charger could be the easy solution.  That’s the plug-in the wall solution to get a faster charge.

The next couple of tips are pretty basic, but they can make a big difference.  These devices tend to charge much faster while turned off rather than charging while turned on.  It might seem like a small issue, but this can make a huge difference when it comes to charge times.  The one drawback is that the device is off and thus can’t be used at all.  Some people have suggested using a Y-cable for two USB ports.  By using a two-USB port cable you should be able to stack the power from each individual port together while charging either the smart phone or tablet.

If you have a portable Apple device like an iPod, iPad, or iPhone, then you have the option of using a software program called the Ai Charger.  Produced by Asus, it will help to normally nearly double the charge from the average USB port, possibly cutting charge times in half or even slightly better.

Another option is a USB adapter called ChargeDr, which is gaining a strong popularity because it has the ability to really boost the power output from regular ports, making charge times extremely fast.   The obvious downside here is price as it is a fairly expensive product, not to mention that it does not work with any device that has an unconventional port for USB.  Only the standard options work here.  Finally, there’s also the mobile app cleverly named “Fast Charge.”  This is an Android app, and one of the most flexible in its ability to be used with many phones and operating systems.

There is only a limited amount you can do to speed up the charging speeds, but if you can knock down the charge time from five or six hours down to two or less, why not?  By looking at the options outlined here, you will find the best combination to keep the charge times down to a minimum.
